History
Walking on a beach in France many years ago Dean Mulroy picked up a stone with a hole in it. So impressed with this natural marriage of opposites he felt impelled to bring with him as many of these mysterious stones as he could carry.
Some while later one of these pieces was placed with intent in Ayre Square, Galway, Ireland. This marked the inaugural symbol of the Solas Art project. This very first symbol was a simple Celtic cross created exclusively with these stones now the oldest members of the family of Solas Art materials.
Creation led to creation for Dean and while his portfolio of materials expanded; the symbols became housed in circles and grew in complexity and detail.
This creative journey became a vocation for Dean and he brought the work to France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Scotland and England... All the while adding to and embellishing his portfolio of materials.
Meanwhile in another universe Geoff Fitzpatrick was studying psychology amongst other things in Trinity College Dublin. It was through academia that Geoff was first introduced to mandala. During this time he began to draw and sketch basic mandalas. Through experience of this creative process he gained relief from the arid intellectual work of university and thus a hobby and passion was born.
One summer's day in 2000 Dean laid an epic mandala in Cork City Ireland displaying the majesty within his by now greatly expanded portfolio of materials.
Flowing from a dance of synchronistic events Geoff's eyes came to fall upon that construction and an awe filled experience of wonder ensued.
That moment marked the birth of a sacred friendship between Dean and Geoff. Their shared passion for this art form fuelled their journey into the potential held within mandalas.
Together they have opened to new depths contained within the work, journeyed into the mystery and have grown in confidence about the healing potential of this mysterious art form when created in this unique way!
